OWL COTTAGE, GRENADA
Enjoy our excellent Maid/Cook and 5 nearby Restaurants

OWL COTTAGE

Walk along or swim from the safe, palm fringed golden sand beach or relax in the privacy of our mature tropical garden and enjoy the beautiful  swimming pool & panoramic views.

Idyllically situated, set in its own garden for privacy, elevated to give fabulous views of the bay from most rooms, yet only 60 yards from Lance Aux Epine's golden sand, palm fringed beach. Conveniently situated between Spice Island Marina with its mini market, restaurant and bar ('happy hour' nightly) and the world famous Calabash Hotel and Red Crab, together with Kudos and Choo Light Chinese Restaurants, all only 2 minutes walk away.

The house has two bedrooms, two bathrooms (both 'en-suite'), large lounge (with 35 channel cable TV) and equally large balcony. The balcony is the focal point of the house where most meals are taken, and from which you can watch the sun set each evening - ideal for relaxing with friends and rum punch! The air temperature rarely drops below 70F or goes above 95F.  At night be lulled to sleep by the gentle lapping of the waves on the beach below.

Greta, our maid, arrives early enough to cook breakfast, serves lunch and will prepare an evening meal if wished. She will also do small amounts of your personal laundry as well as 'keeping house'. A small supply of groceries can be purchased for your arrival.

Grenada - The Gentle Island

GRENADA is somewhere special for a holiday. It is one of the most beautiful of all the Caribbean Islands, being lush and green even in the dry season. It has mountainous scenery - with two peaks around 3,000 ft., waterfalls, colourful tropical flowers, trees and shrubs. Grenada is known as the Spice Island and grows much of the world's nutmeg and other spices. Bananas, cocoa and coconuts also grow in abundance. It is a friendly Island with a charm and character of its own and is still untouched by the commercialism of many of the other Islands.

Grenada is 12 miles x 20 miles - approximately the same size as the Isle of Wight off the south coast of England, and it is the southern most of all the Caribbean islands, being situated at 12 N and therefore well within the tropics. Due to the NE tradewinds the air temperature usually remains between 70 F and 90 F all the year round. Air conditioning or blankets are not required - truly a marvellous climate.

The Capital, St. George's, is the quaintest, most picturesque and unspoilt in the whole of the West Indies, yet despite these qualities the hotels and other holiday accommodation are second to none.
The International Airport in the south makes travel to Grenada very easy.

The silver beaches, reputed to be the best in the Caribbean, if not in the world, are palm fringed to shield you from the tropical sun, allowing you to sail, scuba dive, water ski or simply laze and relax. For the energetic, tennis and golf are both available.

There are rum factories, sugar mills, cocoa and spice plantations together with waterfalls and scenic National Parks to visit in the daytime. Night life is catered for by several discos and the Hotels have evening entertainments in the form of steel bands and barbecues. There are all types of restaurants, including French, Italian, Chinese and of course many local ones serving international and 'local' dishes with fresh lobster high on the list. Within walking distance of Owl Cottage you will find the following restaurants:- Red Crab, Choo Light (Chinese), Kudos and the Boatyard (+ mini-market). Along 'our' beach, the Calabash Hotel for that 'special' celebration.  The 'Aquarium' fresh fish beach restaurant at Point Saline, and the Beach House are 'musts' for either lunches or evening meals.

Between the Islands of Grenada and St.Vincent, 68 miles away to the north, lie the fabled Grenadines (of Beque and Princess Margaret fame) - about 50 superb Islands giving some of the best sailing and cruising anywhere in the world. Grenada is the centre for sailing throughout the Windward Islands and has three thriving Marinas where many visiting yachts can be seen; many having sailed over from Europe, down from the States or up from South Africa.

The Winter Season is from mid-December to mid-April. Rates for hotels, villas, apartments and car hire are naturally higher during this period but by visiting Grenada outside of these months it is possible to take advantage of lower rates.

There are several good super-markets with some things such as imported tinned foods and meat being more expensive than in England or America, but other things such as local fish, fruit and all spirits are much cheaper.

Grenada is the real West Indies, ideal for the escapist longing for uncommercialised luxury.
Once you have discovered it for yourself, you will want to visit time and time again.
You can relax or live it up - either way you will come home refreshed.
